Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor has sadly died at the age of 79.

Famously known for marrying 8 times to 7 different men, she certainly lived life to the full!

Over her life she managed to collect a beautiful collection of famous jewellery.

In an interview with JCK in 2007 she is recorded to have said, “The important thing to know about jewellery is that you never really own it; you’re simply a custodian of beautiful things,”

Some of the famous gems that she owned were, the 69.42 carat pear- shaped Taylor – Burton diamond, which she received in 1969 from Richard Burton, and the 33 carat Krupp diamond.

In the film Mark Anthony, Elizabeth played Cleopatra. It has been recorded that Cleopatra possessed 2 magnificent pear shaped pearls, which she wore as earrings. However, in her bid to demonstrate that Egypt possessed a heritage and wealth which put it beyond conquest, Cleopatra wagered Mark Anthony that she would consume the entire wealth of a country in a single meal and is reputed to have dissolved one of these precious pearls in the wine with which she toasted his health.
