If you think freshwater pearls only come in 3 different shapes, round, droplet and long rectangles, then I am about to open ‘Pandora’s Box’!!
Stars
Crosses
Angel Wings…
These are only a few of the freshwater pearl shapes you can have.
But how are the freshwater pearl shapes created?
The diverse pearl shapes are achievable because of their cultivation process. The pearl farm technician will extract a tiny piece of mantel which will contain epithelial cells from the donor mussel, cut it to the desired shape and and place it into the host mussel.
Once the tissue has triggered the pearl formation it will slowly be covered in layer upon layer of nacre, a very thin translucent material that gives the pearl its distinctive lustre.
Here at Coleman Douglas Pearls we have several pearl necklaces, pearl earrings and pearl bracelets that include a variety of pearl shapes, adding a young, playful element to the timeless classic gem.
Our freshwater star pearl earrings are a fun alternative to the traditional pearl stud and drop.
Made up of a white freshwater pearl stud on sterling silver, with a suspended moonstone and freshwater pearl star that delicately sway as you move.
Fancy a freshwater pearl cross?
We have a stunning cultured freshwater seed pearl necklace with a white pearl cross pendant perfect for everyday.
As well as white pearl crosses we also have a beautiful selection of naturally coloured pink crosses strung on transparent light pink silk ribbons, that give the appearance of the pearl cross floating while being worn.
To see a wide selection of our pearl jewellery pop into our Pearl Showroom, located at 42 Beauchamp Place, London, SW3 1NX, where a member of our Pearl Team will happily guide you around and help you choose the perfect pearls for you.
