The Coleman Douglas Pearl team have been addicted to the BBC’s new hit series, ‘The Night Manager’. Dangerous, thrilling and above all glamorous, this thriller has had us on the edge of our seats every week! But apart from ogling Tom Hiddleston (as well as following the plot) it has been the stunning pearls that have captured our eyes week on week.
The opening sequence is an example of very clever computer animation turning luxurious items into deadly weapons, mimicking the theme of the show with wealthy, glamorous people who are in fact very dangerous. We absolutely love the fabulous multi strand pearl necklace seen in the Night Manager and think that our multi strand necklace makes an equally dramatic statement, especially paired with a backless dress.
Throughout the series we have seen many of the actresses donning pearls – especially leading lady Elizabeth Debicki. Elizabeth’s character Jed is rarely seen without her pearl drops or pearl studs – very similar to ones you can find in our pearl store in 42 Beauchamp Place, London. It also seems that she is a fan of pearls herself as in all her major roles to date she has donned pearls!
And Gentlemen please don’t feel left out, pearls are not just for the ladies in your life! Pearls are particularly loved by actors who play Bond, James Bond! Daniel Craig donned a pair of pearl cufflinks in Skyfall and Pierce Brosnan often wears his Tahitian pearl on leather. If Tom Hiddleston is reading out there (can I have your number?) maybe wearing some of our pearl cufflinks or pearl tie pins you can swing the next bond gig in your favour. . . . ?! We all think Tom would be the perfect choice as the latest Bond – who would you like to see playing the world’s most famous spy?
Fashion Season, our favorite time of the year here at Coleman Douglas Pearls! Back to back weeks of designers showcasing the latest trends for the upcoming season in all the main fashion hubs, London, New York, Paris and Milan. We were particularly excited about Paris fashion week due to the abundance of Pearls seen on the catwalk.
Leading the charge was of course Chanel, carrying Coco’s legacy into the 21st Century with ropes and ropes of pearls! Paired with a monochrome look and flowers, the pearls really shone but also proved a big hit when paired with this seasons pink and blue hues. Pearls were not limited to just ropes either, pearl chokers and hat straps were also in abundance on the runway.
Also embracing the pearl trend was Olivier Rousteing, the creative director at Balmain. Here the dresses were encrusted in pearls, with models such as Gigi Hadid showing them off in the best possible light. Again we saw similar use of colour to Chanel with striking monochrome dresses, as well as pastel pinks and baby blues. The pearl encrusted clothing was not only limited to the ladies – Kanye West sported a cream pearl encrusted bomber jacket proving once again pearls are not just a girl’s best friend!
Pearl accessories were also spotted on other catwalks with unusual geometric design necklaces at Stella Macartney and pearl encrusted shoes at Gucci. Dries van Noten also had a selection of accessories to pick from from pearl scarf pins to pearl rings. Pearl’s were also spilling out onto the streets with many an on trend fashionista sporting the look – our favourite has to be this pearl bag!
What were your favourite looks from fashion week? Have you spotted any other designers sporting the pearl trend?
