On August 15th a set of pearls belonging to Jackie Kennedy Onassis will go to auction at Bohams and are expected to fetch around £25,000. That seems a fair sum for pearls which have belonged to such an icon. But what makes the price all the more surprising is that they are not real pearls.
The three strand necklace is made from ‘simulated’ pearls finished with a diamond- and emerald-coloured clasp.
The necklace was a favourite of Jackie’s in the early 1960’s and so worth the price for the winning bidder to own such a piece of history…
Jackie O is making her mark on 2010 with Katie Holmes playing the First Lady in a new series the Kennedies due out on the History channel later this year. See Katie on set as Jackie O.
To get the classic Jackie O look with real pearls, a double strand set of white round freshwater pearls from Coleman Douglas is £595, or a triple strand freshwater necklace of irregular pearls is £262
