Her jewellery was ‘legendary’, containing some of the most famous stones, such as the 69.42-carat Taylor-Burton diamond, 33-carat Krupp Diamond, and La Peregrina Pearl.
Elizabeth knew each one of her jewels intimately, being able to tell the origin of the gem.
She believed that jewels never belong exclusively to the owners, but instead they act as ‘“custodians, here to enjoy them, to give them the best treatment in the world, to watch after their safety and to love them.”’ Therefore, it is fitting that her jewellery be auctioned off ready to find new ‘custodians’.
