As many of you already know last Thursday an auction house in Salisbury saw a stunning pair of diamond and natural pearl earrings sell for £1.6 million!
The general consensus is that they were from the Arabian Gulf or North West Australia.
The earrings had been kept loose and untouched in a drawer by the vendor for around three decades!
They had been given by Crown Prince Carol to his Romanian mistress, Elena ‘Magda’ Lupescu, who later bequeathed her pearls to a British lady, who then left them to her nephew and his wife.
The couple, having taken them to the auction house, were astonished to hear that the earrings might reach up to £80,000 – £120,000, but within the first 10 seconds of the auction, you could see that these earrings were going to go for a lot more than the estimated price.
