The article called ‘Pearl Essence’ written by Lucia van der Post, goes into detail about natural pearls. She interviewes Chrissie Douglas, Pearl Specialist and Designer, in great detail about where to find pearls, what to look for and getting them valued.
Most of you already know that Chrissie is a very talented Pearl Specialist and Designer, but few of you know how she started.
Well let me enlighten you!
Born in Mexico into a very well-known British artistic family, she was exposed to the creative world at an early age.
So it is hardly surprising to learn that the importance of mixing colours and textures, came as naturally to Chrissie as learning to walk.
From as far back as she can remember she has always had a love of lustrous pearls, making her decision to specialise in them an obvious route to take.
For an extended period of time she lived in Hong Kong where her pearl knowledge went from strength to strength.
With her vast knowledge and experienced eye, she was able to discern between pearls as easily as distinguishing between different colours. e.g. red and blue.
With this gifting and knowledge she is able to tailor pearl designs to match her client’s colouring and personality, creating designs that will stand the test of time and become family heirlooms.
“The best part of what I do is to match each woman to her perfect pearl colour and shape”, enthuses Chrissie, “the perfect look will have the effect of lighting up the girl’s face by making her eyes dance and her smile light up.”
Her knowledge of pearls is so extensive that she gives lectures on the quality, beauty and history of pearls to the GIA, various businesses, charitable groups and of course CDP clients.
