Fashion Season, our favorite time of the year here at Coleman Douglas Pearls! Back to back weeks of designers showcasing the latest trends for the upcoming season in all the main fashion hubs, London, New York, Paris and Milan. We were particularly excited about Paris fashion week due to the abundance of Pearls seen on the catwalk.
Leading the charge was of course Chanel, carrying Coco’s legacy into the 21st Century with ropes and ropes of pearls! Paired with a monochrome look and flowers, the pearls really shone but also proved a big hit when paired with this seasons pink and blue hues. Pearls were not limited to just ropes either, pearl chokers and hat straps were also in abundance on the runway.
Also embracing the pearl trend was Olivier Rousteing, the creative director at Balmain. Here the dresses were encrusted in pearls, with models such as Gigi Hadid showing them off in the best possible light. Again we saw similar use of colour to Chanel with striking monochrome dresses, as well as pastel pinks and baby blues. The pearl encrusted clothing was not only limited to the ladies – Kanye West sported a cream pearl encrusted bomber jacket proving once again pearls are not just a girl’s best friend!
Pearl accessories were also spotted on other catwalks with unusual geometric design necklaces at Stella Macartney and pearl encrusted shoes at Gucci. Dries van Noten also had a selection of accessories to pick from from pearl scarf pins to pearl rings. Pearl’s were also spilling out onto the streets with many an on trend fashionista sporting the look – our favourite has to be this pearl bag!

‘A woman needs ropes and ropes of pearls‘ – Coco Chanel
If you had been scrolling through social media recently you might have caught a glimpse of the latest Chanel fashion show, where pearl earrings, necklaces and bracelets ran riot through the Chanel streets.
What was so unique about this show? It was styled to look like an old black and white film.
Several of the models wore high thick pearl chokers to offset the large black collars and cuffs of the clothing.
Do you desire a peacock black pearl choker?
We have the ideal one here at our Pearl Showroom. Made up of 5 strands of freshwater droplet pearls, the necklace can be twisted up or worn loosely.
Alternatively if your outfit needs a cuff or two, then why not do it in pearls?
Our white freshwater pearl ‘lace’ cuff with peacock black freshwater pearl detailing is the perfect finishing touch to any outfit.
The pearls are connected to a sterling silver frame which can be molded to fit your arm.
One pearl look that our Pearl Team thought was lacking on the catwalk was a pearl torso.
16 strands of freshwater pearls… who wouldn’t want to wear this beauty!
Now that we have gone through the ‘Chanel fashion film’ take a look at our Coleman Douglas Pearls film…
Have you heard? Did you see? Chanel’s Mademoiselle Prive exhibition is ON!
The exhibition is taking place in the Saatchi Gallery in Duke of York Square. A guaranteed star studded event.
When you think of Coco Chanel you probably think of her wearing an exquisitely tailored monochrome outfit, with a cloud of cigarette smoke looming in the air, and of course strand upon strand of pearls. But when you think of Karl Lagerfeld pearls are probably the last thing on your list, if it is on the list at all!… Until now!
Check out Karl wearing his long strand of tahitian pearls at the opening of the exhibition. A ‘pearl’u’tiful’ scene!
Tahitian pearls, a firm favorite of our of Pearl Team, come in a range of stunning natural metallic colours, making them the obvious pearl of choice for men. Created in black lipped oysters that inhabit the waters around French Polynesia, Panama and Mexico, their colours are naturally dark and range from grey to black and peacock green to aubergine.
‘A woman needs ropes and ropes of pearls.’ – Coco Chanel
Pearls have never been a stranger in the Chanel fashion shows. Pearl earrings, pearl bracelets, and pearl necklaces, pearls are a Chanel/Life must. Just look at the freshwater pearl lariat on the left.
But what are the pearl ‘must haves’ for a ‘chanel’i’alite’?
Below we have selected the 2 essentials.
Firstly where would a girl be without her large pearl studs?
Coming in a range of different sizes and colours, our large ‘button’ shaped freshwater pearls are the obvious choice.
Secondly… the pearl strands. The more the merrier!
Try pairing up our classic long freshwater pearl necklace with our long mixed freshwater pearl necklace, a look that Coco Chanel would totally approve of.
