Flower Power

NE1313 Main image largeIt’s that time of the year again when the world descends upon Chelsea for the annual RHS flower show, and we are fully embracing the flower power here at Coleman Douglas Pearls! Our felt and pearl flowers are blossoming in our showrooms along with Katharine Amies botanical artwork which is halfway through its exhibition.

chelseaAnd we aren’t the only ones! The streets of London are blooming once again with the fabulous floral displays decorating the front of many well known shops in the area. Our Pearl Team have been keeping their eyes peeled and have found a few of their favourites.
First up is the incredible riot of colour seen outside the Ivy Garden who are fully embracing this years carnival theme! The amazing colour combinations are more than a little reminiscent of our Gift of Life necklace we think.

The flowers don’t just stop there, the incredible display of the Queen’s profile from the New Covent Garden Flower Market is so cleverly executed as well as beautiful. Outside the Royal Hospital Chelsea is a stunning display of handmade crocheted poppies in a moving tribute to the armed forces. The flowers are not just seen on the display’s either as the young woman on the left shows of her amazing floral dress!

bolt flowersThe Rio Carnival theme is not just limited to Chelsea however, inside the Hampton Court ground you can see the creations taking inspiration from this summer’s olympics – like this creation with Usain Bolt and Mo Farah pulling their signature poses! The public vote for chelsea in bloom is officially open from the 24th – 28th May and with lots of events in the area be sure to pop by our pearl showroom in Beauchamp Place to join in the festivities.

We’ve got the Power!… Fashion Power!

Flower pFashion, constantly changing, or so we thought!
Big in the 70s…HUGE right now… it’s Flower Power!
Our Pearl Team saw a perfect example of this at yesterdays Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2016 catwalk show in Paris. The exterior building…a mountain of purple delphiniums, inside…a landslide of purple delphiniums! All in all there were more than 400,000 flowers used to cover the exterior of the show’s backdrop.

A horticulturists dream, and a hey fever sufferers nightmare!
And it’s not just the fashion show sets that are a floral paradise, it seems that one of the biggest trend coming out of the 2016 S/S collections are floral prints. Unlike the prints of 2015, the florals are amplified with a big, bold intensity to catch the eye.

Fancy joining this trend but would prefer something a little more ‘subtle’?

Felt collectionUsing a multitude of freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones and felt, our designer has created a collection inspired by the floral arrangements seen in a well-tended garden.
Made up of pearl necklaces, pearl earrings, a multitude of pearl bracelets and pearl pins, you are bound to find the perfect floral accessory to accompany your Spring/Summer look.

Our ‘Hanging Garden’ lasso, pictured on the right, is made up of a luxurious mix of cultured freshwater pearls, calcedony, rose quartz, peridot, citrine and rock crystals.
The delicate semi-precious stone clusters add colour and contrasting textures to the timeless classic pearls.

Now boys, before you think flowers don’t apply to you as you’d never dream of wearing a floral top, just look down at the rugby top you are wearing… see the ROSE?!

Florals are back…it’s a FACT!

Blooming Brilliant!

It’s a colour, texture, natural beauty feast as well as a hay fever sufferer’s worst nightmare… it’s The Chelsea Flower Show!
Budding (excuse the pun!) designers have been fighting it out with trowel and spade to create the best flower display possible, with this years show looking like it might be the best yet. Upside down flower beds and brightly fire coloured Lupins, of which CDPearls particularly favoured the Warrior ‘Gladiator’ type, are among the eye catching collections on show.
If you were unable to purchase a ticket to the CFS, you still have a chance to check out some spectacular floral creations on show in Sloane Square and Beauchamp Place.Family Pearls 6
Below our Pearl Team have put together their top 3 floral window displays to check out this Bank Holiday Weekend.

Firstly…The Coleman Douglas Pearl window! Controversially our front window is not covered in flowers, instead it has been taken over with a multitude of multi-coloured butterflies feasting on pearl nectar! Come check it out at 42 Beauchamp Place, London, SW3 1NX.

Keeping the pearl jewellery colours down to a minimum, the black and white pearl necklaces, pearl earrings and pearl bracelets are perfect for all ‘My Fair Lady’ events, of which several are coming up (Ascot, Wimbledon, Henley, Glynbourne…).

The next window display which caught the eye of our Pearl Company was the LK Bennett floral scene, located on the Kings Road.
It was a Cinderella extravaganza complete with a floral pumpkin, mice, The Gown, story book and ‘glass’ slipper.

Chelsea Flower show 4Just down the road from the Cinderella window scene, you step into Alice’s Wonderland, complete with over oversized pot, white rabbit and ‘mad hatter’!
Walk round the corner and you discovered the HUGE Alice in Wonderland pink flamingos casually standing outside Kate Spade.

So…what’s your favourite window?!
