South Sea Pearl EarringsCultured South Sea Pearls are produced in a Pearl Farm where technicians implant a nucleus made of mother of pearl, and an epithelial cell graft taken from a donor oyster, and inserts it into the pearl bearing oyster.
The epithelial cell graft forms a pearl sac similar to a placenta, while within the sac the oyster secretes layer upon layer of nacre to cover the nucleus eventually producing a pearl.
