Do you dream of owning a breathtaking South Sea Pearl necklace, bracelet, pair of earrings, or broach?
If you do; then Coleman Douglas Pearls can help you out!
We have the most amazing array of classic South Sea Pearl stands as well as new exciting pearl jewellery designs all awaiting you at our Pearl Showroom, located at 42 Beauchamp Place, London, SW3 1NX.
South Sea Pearls are mainly white in colour, although they do have overtones ranging from light gold to pale pink. They are made in white, silver, and gold lipped oysters found in the Philippines, Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia and Burma.
Most South Sea Pearls are mainly 9-16mm in diameter although you can find the occasional 20mm South Sea Pearl.
Cultured South Sea Pearls are produced in a Pearl Farm where technicians implant a nucleus made of mother of pearl, and an epithelial cell graft taken from a donor oyster, and inserts it into the pearl bearing oyster.
The epithelial cell graft forms a pearl sac similar to a placenta, while within the sac the oyster secretes layer upon layer of nacre to cover the nucleus eventually producing a pearl.
If you would like to find out more about South Sea Pearls or any other pearl, come along to one of our Pearl Talks happening throughout the year. Chrissie Douglas, our Pearl Specialist and Designer, will explain all about the various different types of pearls as well as how and where they are made and how to find the perfect pearl for you.
We also provide a Re-stringing and Re-designing service as well as a fantastic Bespoke service, so if you feel creative why not sit down with Chrissie and have ‘one of a kind’ earrings, necklaces or bracelets made.
