Social media has been buzzing about ‘it’, fashion’e’stas have been hollering about ‘it’, and the phrase ‘Blue Steel’ has been voiced around the world!
Yes we are talking about the Zoolander ‘takeover’ at the Valentino show.
As the fashion show started the audience gazed upon the new Valentino collection that was unveiling before them on the catwalk, little did they know that the catwalk would soon be taken over by Eric Zoolander and Hansel strutting their way down it with as much attitude as a peacock! …quite a look!
This show joins a long line of fashion shows that have shocked fashion editors, photographers and members of the public alike, starting a ‘tweeting’ and ‘facebooking’ frenzy.
Another show that ‘packed a fashion punch’ was the Givenchy show.
Models were covered from head to toe in pearls, sequins and shells.
A look that reminded our Pearl Team of the Pearl encrusted outfit Lady Gaga shocked the world with a few years ago. More recently, at the 2015 Oscars, we saw Lupita Nyong’o wearing a beautiful pearl covered Ralph Lauren gown.
If we flip back through the history books we see that pearl covered clothing is not something new. In the Elizabethan era particularly, several members of nobility would cover their clothing in as many pearls as possible, demonstrating their wealth and power.
One pearl’o’holic in particular who would do anything, even murder, to acquire more pearls was Elizabeth I, who as well as wearing natural pearls also wore some of the first imitation pearls to hit the market.
Do you fancy adding stunning pearl strands to your look?
If you do then Coleman Douglas Pearls is the place to go, with a wide selection of pearl jewellery as well as our show stopping multi-strand pearl torso ready to be purchased.
